Why Alysia Montano wears a flower in her hair during every race.
Even though she grew up playing football, shooting hoops and running races against all the boys in her neighborhood, U.S. 800-meter champion Alysia Montano never wanted to be thought of as one of them.
As a result, she started wearing a flower behind her right ear to remind the boys they were getting beat by a girl.
The flower remains Montano’s trademark even though her opponents are now world-class female middle-distance runners.
"The flower to me means strength with femininity," Montano said in June after winning the 800 at the U.S. Olympic trials. "I think that a lot of people say things like you run like a girl. That doesn’t mean you have to run soft or you have to run dainty. It means that you’re strong."

Run Like A Girl

Surely this phrase is meant as a compliment, right?

"Note to self: every time you were convinced you couldn’t go on, you did."

maddies-miles:

Posting this because on my run today a woman yelled from her Jeep as she was driving, “Put some clothes on!”
I wish I had the opportunity to tell her how it feels to hear that. YOU try running six miles on the streets in 80+ temps and come back to me and tell me that yea, wearing a sticky, itchy, and down right uncomfortable shirt is a good idea.
Body shaming is just so aggravating.  All I’m trying to do is run in the most comfortable way possible. I’m not showing off, I’m not aiming to be provocative, I’m not even wearing tight spandex. But who cares if I was? Who cares if I wanted to flaunt my body? It’s my body and I have every right.

Dream date?

redefiningrunning:

I don’t particularly have one, honestly.

But, I mean, a long run followed by a day of a Disney movie marathon sounds clutch.

what times should i shoot for the 5k and 6k?

It depends on your fitness level. Everyone is different and had different goals.
If you’re asking on a recruitment standpoint each division is different and each coach/program is too. But just to be EXTREMELY general if you ran a 21min 5k or faster you can run d3 or some d2 depending and if you broke a 19 you’re good for a small d1 or big d2 program and well if you’re legit you’ll be getting a ton of letters from every school on the planet lol.

Hi i asked about the times for xc as a soph (i am a girl lol) what is the distance college runs? 3.75??

It depends on the school what races they choose to do are different lengths but typically you’ll race 5ks (3.1mi) and 6ks which are conference, regional, and national course length but that’s 3.8 mi
